Marc Rebillet (“Rehb-ee-yay”) is a star.
He is a modern-day wonder shockingly representing everything great and terrible about the Millennial generation all at once (I say that lovingly).
Here is a guy who dropped out of school, has always been a hard worker, left a corporate gig, and landed on his feet just fine because he had music in his soul and never quit. He is one of my heroes, and I’m sad that I missed him perform at the 9:30 Club (pictured below… I think).

Like many, I was exposed to his music via YouTube.
A friend made me aware of this skinny hipster-looking white guy with a creeper mustache, glasses – and the shocking voice of a theatrical soul angel – who improvised loop music live on his keyboard while wearing a robe and circling his head.
Yeah. My initial reaction was, “This dude is talented – but clearly coked out of his mind.” I don’t know whether that’s true or not, but I’m just saying — initial reaction. I also had a sense of, “Dope, but what did I just witness?”
Anyway, I’ve been hooked ever since that introduction and I wanted to share a few of my personal favorites with you. This man does little-to-no wrong for me, so it was honestly a little hard to pick.
First – my personal favorite…
I don’t know what it is about that one, but it just hits me in all the right ways. It’s mellow and just kind of makes me bop my head. But, he’s got range.
Mr. Rebillet can switch from mellow to ironic bangers in a second.
Freestyle skills apparent, his creativity knows few bounds & he appreciates a good funk music riff. It does make me laugh a bit, though thinking about what his neighbors must go through. Especially when he kind of clearly gets stuck in some videos trying to think of what to say next.
You want to dance a little to some Euro-clubby-type hits with dramatic vocalizations tossed in for effect? The loop-music god has got you.
And I’m happy to report that he seems like a genuinely nice guy.
He’s crossed over from online obscurity into a bit of the mainstream right now (as evidenced by an appearance with Sway In The Morning). I can’t speak for the full-spectrum of Black People at all, but I promise you a certain segment of us would funk with this dude.
Ultimately, I’m just happy people are seeking out this audio madman who plays improvised music in a robe and underwear for strangers on the internet. Like – my guy must put on an amazing show with the right crowd.
If only…
If only there were a video of that out there.
Oh…
Wait…
I’ll stop my Rebillet-worship there.
He’s treated us to sessions with the likes of Erykah Badu (a piece of beauty that legit watches like one of those Adult Swim stinger reel shorts on Cartoon Network), Reggie Watts, and resident thicc boi Anthony Fantano.
I feel like Marc Rebillet is just getting started and the current stay-at-home climate actually works a little well for his format of sporadic (spastic?) apartment music creation. I’m looking forward to seeing what he blesses us with next.
Peace, and thanks for reading.
