9 Sources of Distraction to Combat Doom-Scrolling

Recently, I’ve seen Doom-Scrolling pop up a lot in headlines online, and that worried me a bit. Given last week’s events in D.C. – I can understand why some are genuinely stressed and not feeling good vibes. So, I wanted to offer up these sources of positivity (for me) in hopes that something appeals to you and helps ease your mind.

How about we DON’T make 2021 the Year of the Doom-scroll?

Flipping of wooden cubes block to change 2020 to 2021 year. Representing Doom-scrolling. Good Vibes.

The way this post works: There’s a category – a link to the source of the recommendation – and an embedded example of the type of content you’ll find there.

Need a Dose of General Positivity?

Check out either Daily Dose of Internet

Taylor Cassidy

Or Jennelle Eliana (and her pet snake Alfredo).

Does Serenity Bring You Good Vibes?

Have I got a channel for you! Foo the Flowerhorn!

Do You Prefer Looking at Cute Animals?

I got You!

The Dodo (always my #1 rec)…

And SHU AND TREE.

Will Comedy/Laughing Distract You?

CoryxKenshin’s “Try Not To Laugh” Playlist always works wonders on my mood.

Ryan George is INCREDIBLY consistent.

And CalebCity is my favorite YouTuber. He gets my humor (It’s nerdy).

Just Want to Hang with The Squad?

These two are like a pair, so I’ll direct you to both their channels and then post a video of them hanging out: Mai Phammy & Daniella Perkins (who I think is on Nickelodeon or something).

And CinnamonToastKen! I posted an older video of theirs so that you can get a feel for what their show is typically like. COVID has definitely changed their show format recently.

Geek-Culture > Doom-Scrolling?

If so, two recs. WatchMojo (there’s something for everybody there).

And WhatCulture Comics.

And that’s it!

I hope that something here can allow you to get a little bit of a reprieve from what’s going on in the world these days. I am not advocating that you completely ignore everything — I’m not. But, I am acknowledging that it’s bad for humans to ONLY think of bad things. Try to find a little bit of happiness to sprinkle into your doom-scrolling.

You own your time and the outcome of your mood and reactions. No one else does.

Peace, and thanks for reading.
