In honor of Valentine’s Day, I decided that the topic of today’s post has to be L-O-V-E. I know that Black People don’t have a unique claim to the wonderful feeling called love, and I have very little to say – but I’d like to say it anyway. This will be brief, but it is my note on love all the same. Hope it vibes with someone.
The 3 Ideas of Love I Adhere To

Up first…
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
(New International Version)
Up Next…
“Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.”
Alfred Lord Tennyson
Lastly, my personal philosophy.
(Also – honorable mention – The Forty Rules of Love by Elif Shafak is a great read.)
Some Very Quick Words About Love
I think love is a beautiful part of the Human Experience (not just the Black one) and one of the ultimate feelings of belonging. And I’m not just talking about “romantic love” there — familial love, friendship, and the love we show to strangers all play a larger role in life than I think we sometimes give them credit. That said, strive to put more good healthy non-obsessive/possessive love into the world.
If you are fortunate enough to love someone or be loved by someone – treat her/him/them with care. If you’re still going through life solo, don’t quit searching for love and putting it out into the world. There are infinite ways to show love.
Black Love is a wonderful thing, but I don’t care who you love. Love who you love, and don’t dare let anyone make you feel bad for how you feel.

Good luck to you in your experiences with the feeling.
Love doesn’t give up on us – we give up on love.
Love could heal the world if we let it.
Happy Valentine’s Day, people.
Peace, and thanks for reading.
