Yo! The Monthly Kickstarter series is now “The Monthly Kick In” because today’s took things outside of the Kickstarter platform. I like the freedom that name lends because it’ll let me support small businesses, causes, and more outside of Kickstarter. Today is all about my new (upcoming?) toy: The Reevo Hubless E-Bike.
A Bit About The Reevo Hubless E-Bike
A friend made me aware of this one LITERALLY yesterday. He knows that I like tech things here and there, and was aware of my recent post about Ray’s Indoor Mountain Bike Park (which this bike IS NOT for). Trying to get into new healthy habits this year, and biking as a mode of transportation in the city just feels like a no-brainer. There’s also another reason, but I can’t tell you all about that one just yet.
I made my contribution to their Indiegogo campaign because I knew I planned to get this bike eventually, and I wanted to take advantage of the cost savings offered in their campaign. It is already fully-funded and looks like it’s going to be an AMAZING product. I am genuinely impressed by what Beno Technologies cooked up with this one.
My one “gripe” about it (which – frankly – that’s not what it is) is the fingerprint sensor. Not because of the fingerprint scanning tech – but because it’s physically on the bike. I would’ve rather they somehow worked that tech in with their app so that you use your phone scanner instead of it being on the bike. Why? Well, what if someone trying to steal your bike just decides to smash the scanner? They wouldn’t get the bike (I imagine), but now it’s locked up for you as well. Also, what if your scanner just malfunctions (no thief needed)? Are you locked out of your bike?
UPDATE: I saw in their FAQ that you can lock/unlock the bike with your mobile phone as an alternative to the fingerprint scanner! I don’t know what happens if someone smashes the fingerprint reader, but it’s nice to know that there’s an alternate key.
Those are the only concerns I have about my new toy, but I’m willing to roll those dice.
The INSANE Features!
I love that the tires are airless (their bike comes with the airless tires by default, but don’t worry – you can swap those out for standard aired-tires on this bike’s hubless rims after you get your order if you’re not a fan of riding on airless tires). I love that I don’t have to worry about any hubs for the wheels. The security features are nice & the turn signaling features are beyond overdue for bikes. I could talk about these features for days, but I really do think it’s just easier if you check out either their site or the Indiegogo page for a full feature breakdown.
Oh, and you can get it in different colors if black isn’t your thing (for the record – I went with the black one)!
At the end of the day, does this one fall in the realm of impulse purchases for me? Yes and no (again, I’ll explain later). Even if it did, so what? I work hard, barely ever buy anything for myself, and take care of my finances well enough. I, like anyone else, am allowed to splurge on things every now and then. This time my splurging and blogging just happened to overlap nicely 😄
If you’re in the market for a new bike and have a little coin to spare, check them out because I really do think this is going to be money well spent. I can’t wait to get my hands on this e-bike, and I’ll do a follow-up about it someday once I get it and I’m fully comfortable with what it can do.
