6 Recent Top-Tier Animations for a Rainy Day

It is raining hard this morning here in Northern VA, and it kind of has been like this on and off for a little while now. When things like that happen – you need a little something to lift your spirits. Well, what’s better than cartoons? No matter your age, they can be fun! That said, here are 6 animations I think are worth your time.

PS: I’m definitely cheating with this post as only 3 of them are out at the time of this posting, and I’ve technically already talked about one of them (you’ll see what I mean). The ones that are out now should hold you over until the upcoming ones release, though. Oh, and a lot of these are for adults (sorry, kids).

Let’s go & unleash our inner-child, shall we?

The Mitchells vs. The Machines

I have definitely already raved about this one on my YouTube channel, and it is probably the MOST child-friendly of the ones I’m about to list. I wanted to see this one in theaters pre-COVID, and I’m glad that Netflix snatched it up and brought it to the masses.

Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.

This new personal favorite from Marvel can be found on Hulu. While they assassinate M.O.D.O.K.’s character in the process of making this hilarious stop-motion comedy, it delivers. You don’t have to be a comic can to enjoy this one – you just have to have a sense of humor.

LOVE DEATH + ROBOTS

The second season/volume of this animated anthology masterpiece recently dropped on Netflix, and the only disappointment I had with it was that it was too short (it’s less than half as long as the prior season). I cannot recommend this series enough, and if you haven’t seen the first one – back it up and check that out for sure.

Rick and Morty (New Season – June 20th)

With the new season coming on June 20th, you have a few days left to indoctrinate yourself into the universe of Rick and Morty if you’re curious. People love this clever, but totally relatable, adult animation for a reason. You can catch this one on HBO Max or on cable/online if you have access to Cartoon Network.

America: The Motion Picture (June 30th)

And then, on June 30th, Netflix is rewriting history with their amazing looking satirical work “America: The Motion Picture”. I have avoided doing any research on this one because it just looks ridiculous and I want to be surprised. I have only seen two of my friends even talking about it online, so I don’t think a lot of people even know about it yet.

Masters of the Universe: Revelation (July 23rd)

And maybe people don’t know about that last one because this bombshell has been circulating online for a while. I have known about this entry coming out for a while now, but it’s always amazing to see a solid He-Man rendition given the warm fan reception of the last series from 2002 – 2004.

And that’s it! I just wanted to drop a quick post in this morning before I help a friend go and move some furniture this morning. My only other current honorable mention would be “Castlevania” on Netflix. I just didn’t want to add it to the full list because it feels like that one has been out forever now (still – I’d totally recommend that as well).

Have a good rainy day, folks & let me know if you’d recommend any animations not on this list (oh – I intentionally left off Anime if you didn’t notice — I love Anime, but kept this focus to non-Anime releases).

Peace, and thanks for reading.
