I hope it’s not too much of a secret on here: I’m Black. That, and I’m single. No children. And I’ve always told myself that I would love my kids unconditionally if I ever had any. Whoever they are as a person, I would love. Whoever they loved, I would accept. BUT… If my son brought home these pre-wedding photos!!!? No.
Some Context Before I Disown Him
A friend from my hometown posted shared these photos on Facebook, that’s how I saw them.
I don’t know these people and they could be actors doing some kind of reanactment for all I know.
I am assuming these are like engagement photos or something givent the context of the one photo with text to acompany it (also shown as the cover photo for this post).
I do not own these photos & I don’t know who does (and it’s honestly probably for the best that their identities aren’t exposed online).
This may be a really awkward post for non-Black viewers – but the outrage and disbelief had to be shared.

Love Without Dignity
I won’t go down a list of all of the things wrong and cringy in these (again, supposed) wedding-related photos, but I’ll seriously talk about why this is the ONE thing that I currently know of for sure that would probably make me disown my child.
I don’t need to tell you about slavery if you’re reading this.
I assume you went through the U.S. education system and learned about slavery (or you’re from outside the country and may have heard of the enslavement of Africans in the U.S.), and have some idea of the socioeconomic ramifications that’s had on Black People in the United States. If you need a refresher – click here, and check out other stories in that series from February 2021.
There is no dignity here.
Not a single shred.
This isn’t funny.
This isn’t something that throws me into a rage.
This makes me sad.
This embarrasses me for the actual family of the Black man pictured in these photos.
If my Black son brought home this White woman, I wouldn’t care about her race – I’d be happy for him that he found someone he loved dearly. But, after these photos – I wouldn’t be able to UNSEE her race.
I would be ashamed… I am ashamed… looking at these photos, if these are U.S. Citizens who are indeed getting married and the brown-skinned man (who I’ve been assuming is Black) agreed to do these photos.
I wouldn’t even want to know who came up with the idea for the photoshoot!
I think that it’s supposed to be a concept of he was a slave to something and then she came and set him free. But there’s “high artistic concept” and then there’s just doing things in bad taste.
THIS is in bad taste.
If I were this guy’s dad, I wouldn’t fly off the handle – I’d just let him know that I didn’t approve. Request that they do not share these photos. And I’d let him know that if he did, I couldn’t look at him the same ever again and that I’d probably end up doing something drastic like writing him out of my will at some point because of the tremendous shame this act brings on his family.
I would not want to talk to my new daughter if they got married.
And I’d worry about what he’s teaching my grandchildren if they had kids.
This may all sound like hyperbole, but I’m being serious on this one.
I don’t even know what the equivalent of this would be in other races, but I NEVER would’ve thought I’d even see something like this. Now that I’ve seen it, I know — this would likely make me disown my child.
That is all that I have for this one. Again, I don’t know the people pictured. I can’t confirm if they are a couple. This could just be some messed-up trolling.
